About Athlon Avia
NVP Athlon Avia is a Ukrainian manufacturer of unmanned aircraft systems based in Kyiv. Its chief executive Artem Vyunnyk has described the company's founding in 2014 as a reaction to the annexation of Crimea and the outbreak of the war in Donbas. According to the company, the first test flights of its drone took place with the Donbas battalion in 2014; the National Guard of Ukraine adopted the A1-CM Furia system in 2015, and a modernised version passed state trials and was accepted into service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2020.
The A1-CM Furia is a catapult-launched flying wing with a wingspan of 2,000 mm, a take-off weight of 6 kg and an electric motor. The manufacturer quotes a flight time of up to four hours, a cruising speed of 65 km/h, a radius of action of at least 50 km and a route length of up to 200 km; it lands by parachute or like an aeroplane. A system comprises three aircraft, three day payload modules and two night modules. In 2025 the company reported factory testing of a larger Furia-2 with up to five hours of endurance and was developing the ST-35 Silent Thunder loitering munition and the ST-1200 multirotor.
Athlon Avia combines development, production, user training and round-the-clock technical support. The company states that in 2026 more than 4,000 of its aircraft were in use and more than 100 brigades used the Furia daily. Since 2024 it has run its own recruitment and training programme and says nearly 700 operators from the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Security Service, the National Police and the State Border Guard Service have been trained.
