About FiberBridge Photonics

FiberBridge Photonics GmbH was founded in 2017 by Dr. Thomas Theeg as a spin-off of the Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) and is based in Hannover. The company develops and builds fibre-based high-power lasers, from fibre components, fibre arrays and collimators to high-power fibre amplifiers at 1, 1.5 and 2 µm and complete systems. A core technology is beam combining, including coherent, spectral and incoherent combining of many laser channels into one beam.

In defence, FiberBridge names counter-UAS as its focus and offers high-energy laser systems based on coherent beam combining for directed-energy use against drones. A basic laser unit delivers about 2 to 3 kW; several units are combined into a high-energy beam meant to engage drones at distances of several kilometres, in configurations ranging from mobile systems to container-based installations.

In August 2026 the company opened series production of high-power laser systems for drone defence in Hannover and now manufactures much of the central laser assembly in-house. It has about 50 employees; in its early years it supplied international partners in Singapore, Israel and the USA.
