About Germandrones

Germandrones GmbH was founded in 2016 in Berlin and develops and produces unmanned aerial systems for professional users. The company is located in the former cargo hangars of the Urban Tech Republic on the site of the former Tegel Airport, where it also carries out manufacturing. Software, flight control and ground control systems are developed in-house, and the company holds a DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 certification.

The main product is the Songbird, a vertical take-off and landing aircraft that combines the range and speed of a fixed-wing design with the ability to lift off and land like a multicopter. It flies for up to two hours and around 100 kilometres beyond visual line of sight and carries modular camera and sensor payloads for mapping, inspection, reconnaissance and security tasks.

Customers include police forces, armed forces and industrial operators. Together with its Ukrainian partner Perun, Germandrones delivered more than 500 Songbird systems to the Ukrainian armed forces in 2025, including training and maintenance, and is scaling up production for further deliveries. Further references named by the company include the Moldovan Border Police, the Philippine Coast Guard (via the German development agency GIZ), the Italian company HORUS Technologies and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence via the Bundeswehr's special staff for Ukraine support.
