About Kara Dag Technologies

Kara Dag Technologies is an American-Ukrainian company founded in 2023 by engineers and entrepreneurs from Ukraine and the United States in response to the Russian invasion. It develops hardware and software for detecting drones, based on radio-frequency analysis, machine learning and its own database of drone RF signatures collected by its devices in Ukraine and elsewhere.

Its main product line is Obriy, a wearable detector that recognises FPV drones and quadcopters by their video and control signals and warns the user. According to Militarnyi, the Obriy 1.3 is intended for personal use by soldiers on the battlefield, weighs about 380 g with antennas, runs for up to 8 hours and detects drones at around 2 to 5 km. The Obriy 1.3C and 1.4C cover 1 to 6 GHz; the 1.4 adds a screen that shows the video feed of a hostile FPV drone, and the detector can trigger connected jammers automatically. Obriy 1.5, covering 0.3 to 7 GHz, and Obriy 2.0, which is to locate drones by triangulation over a mesh network, are in development.

Kara Dag also offers its detectors as modules for integration into UAVs, ground robots, vehicles and electronic warfare systems, and says it supplies drone detectors, UAV operator location devices and smart jammers in this form. A further product addresses fibre-optic drones, which emit no radio signal, by acoustic and visual detection.
