About Steyr Motors
Steyr Motors AG, headquartered in Steyr in Upper Austria, builds customised engines and power generation units for defence and civil applications, including military special vehicles, boats and auxiliary power units in main battle tanks.
Its engines are increasingly used in unmanned systems. The Variant 7 uncrewed surface vessel from Red Cat's Blue Ops unit runs on a 270 hp six-cylinder Steyr diesel; the CORNUS unmanned ground vehicle of the Slovenian company RTC is to be powered by a Steyr Motors engine; and in October 2026 Steyr agreed to supply generator units for the ground charging system of the Grille 9X, an electric medevac and resupply drone from the German manufacturer Avilus.
On 19 October 2026 Red Cat Holdings announced a cash takeover offer for Steyr Motors; completion is expected in the first half of 2027.
