About University of Latvia

In August 2026 the University of Latvia agreed a long-term strategic partnership with the Latvian technology company LV-Teh. Joint work covers robotic platforms, unmanned ground vehicles (UGV), control and navigation solutions and human-machine interaction, including prototyping and testing under real conditions, with defence and civil security as target applications.

The university is one of four founders of the deep-tech incubator UniLab. Its defence arm, UniLab Defence, runs Latvia’s first pre-acceleration programme for start-ups with military and dual-use technologies, funded by the government with €226,000 a year in 2025 and 2026 and shared among the four universities.

Earlier, the university’s Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science took part in a Ministry of Defence research project on electromagnetic protection and cybersecurity in field conditions, selected in December 2021 under the Defence Innovation Research Programme.
