Counter-UAS for Romania: Elbit Systems to supply ReDrone for almost 60 million euros
A European NATO member – Romania, according to media reports – is ordering multi-layered counter-UAS from Elbit Systems. The contract worth almost 60 million euros runs for three years and covers the modular ReDrone solution with radar, SIGINT, EW and EO.

A European NATO country is procuring multi-layered counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) from Elbit Systems for almost 60 million euros. Media reports name Romania as the customer. The contract will be executed over three years.
The contract covers the company’s modular counter-drone solution ReDrone (Counter-UAS). It includes the DAiR radar, signals intelligence (SIGINT) sensors, electronic warfare (EW) countermeasures and an electro-optical (EO) day/night payload. Together they provide an improved integrated air picture and bring high-end electronic attack capabilities.
What the ReDrone counter-UAS system can do
Within Elbit’s EW, radar and SIGINT portfolio, ReDrone is one of the advanced products; it is multi-sensor, multi-mission and modular in design. Its functions go beyond those of common active and passive sensors: within the protected area, several drones can be rapidly detected and located simultaneously and across different communication channels. Hostile unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) are detected, identified, located, tracked and neutralised by day and by night, in urban and rural areas and in varying weather. Fixed and mobile configurations are available for greater operational flexibility; the latter can be installed on vehicles. In addition, there are advanced C4I functions (command and control) that enable comprehensive mission management.
Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, commented on the contract as follows:
“This contract, which comes amid the growing threat posed by unmanned aerial systems, follows a series of contracts we have received in the CUAS field. We are proud that another NATO member state has chosen our solution, which is further proof of the robustness and effectiveness of our system, built on our advanced capabilities in EW, SIGINT, radar and EO technologies.”— Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW
