Drones for Ukraine: the Netherlands provides 500 million euros
During a visit to Dnipro and the eastern front, Ruben Brekelmans and Gijs Tuinman announced an accelerated support package worth 2 billion euros. 500 million of it goes to drones for Ukraine.

With a large-scale project worth 500 million euros, the Netherlands is funding drones for Ukraine and thus supporting the country in its defence against Russia. According to a recent press release from the Dutch Ministry of Defence, the aim is to “strengthen Ukraine's defensive capability at the front line and repel Russian attacks”.
Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans and State Secretary Gijs Tuinman announced the funds during a visit to Ukraine. They come from an accelerated support package for 2025 totalling 2 billion euros.
Visit to Dnipro and the eastern front
Brekelmans and Tuinman saw the situation on the ground for themselves. Among other places, they visited Dnipro just hours after a heavy drone attack there had killed four people and injured around 20. While firefighting was still under way at the destroyed site, the two Dutch politicians underlined how urgently further support was needed.
At headquarters on the eastern front, they discussed the military situation with the commander of the Ukrainian Ground Forces. Drones, air defence systems and artillery were urgently needed, the Ukrainian side said – according to the press release, “priorities that are in line with the Netherlands' plans”.
Brekelmans: drones for Ukraine make the difference
Minister Brekelmans emphasised: “It was important to announce the accelerated support of 2 billion euros on the ground – including 500 million euros specifically for drones”. He added: “These drones make a decisive difference on the battlefield and save lives. Minister Umerov strongly requested this support during his recent visit to the Netherlands. Our commitment strengthens not only the front line, but also Ukraine's negotiating position.”
Agreement between the defence industries
At a personal meeting with Defence Minister Umerov, the Dutch delegation reaffirmed its continued support. Besides drones, the accelerated package also includes air defence systems, ammunition and maritime equipment. An agreement was also signed under which the defence industries of both countries are to cooperate more closely.
State Secretary Tuinman sees benefits for both: “Close cooperation between our industries brings advantages to both sides,” he said. “We can learn a great deal from Ukraine's combat experience, and in return we contribute our capabilities. This promotes innovation and enables industrial scaling. What is good for Ukraine is also good for the Netherlands – and vice versa.”
