People and appointments at the German company Helsing: Andriy Shevchenko joins as Managing Director Ukraine with immediate effect, as Helsing announced a few days ago.
Shevchenko brings experience as a diplomat, government member and member of parliament. His previous positions include Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Deputy Minister of Defence and representing his country at the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). He also served three terms as a member of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament.
People and appointments shaped by the Ukraine commitment
Helsing has been active in Ukraine since early 2022, and the team on the ground has been expanded continuously. Shevchenko's move comes at a time when the company is significantly expanding its commitment there: since the start of the year alone, Helsing has handed over thousands of HX-2 drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Shevchenko himself comments on his move:
The war in Ukraine shows that superiority on the battlefield results from the interplay of hardware and software – and from the speed with which technology reaches the soldiers. Helsing is at the forefront of this transformation, and I am proud to contribute to the company's mission in Ukraine— Andriy Shevchenko
The AI-enabled HX-2 strike drone is immune to hostile electronic warfare measures. It searches for, identifies and engages military targets even when no Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal is available and no continuous data link exists. With a range of up to 100 kilometres, it can disrupt Russian supply lines deep in the operational rear in a targeted manner; among other things, it thus makes an important contribution to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' “Logistics Lockdown” strategy.
Gundbert Scherf, Co-CEO and co-founder of Helsing, emphasises:
Ukraine is part of Helsing. We have been on the ground for years, working side by side with the armed forces. Andriy is the ideal leader to scale this mission. He combines political, military and diplomatic expertise and is therefore ideally positioned to drive our commitment in Ukraine forward.— Gundbert Scherf, Co-CEO and co-founder of Helsing
