Drone training in live simulation: Thales adds drone scenarios to its training solution
Friendly or hostile drone: with a new drone training function in its live simulators, Thales aims to prepare armed forces for changing operational conditions. A kit makes drones from a few hundred grams to several dozen kilograms ready for exercises.

Thales is adding drone training to its live-training simulators. The newly introduced function is intended to help armed forces adapt to a constantly changing operational environment. Scenarios with both friendly and hostile drones can be practised to make operational readiness more effective.
The solution comes as a kit and is not tied to any particular drone type. It can be used with drones in categories C0–C6 and A1–A3, i.e. from a few hundred grams to several dozen kilograms. A key feature is the highly immersive simulation: each drone can be fitted with a kit of sensors and indicators that simulates the effect of a neutralisation and reports the drone's status in real time during exercises.
Modular drone training with data analysis
A further advantage lies in operational modularity. Equipped with transmitters, drones can represent loitering munitions (self-detonation) or armed drones (virtual release of explosive charges). Data-driven training is also integrated: all exercise data is recorded automatically, enabling a debriefing and detailed analysis after training.
Benoit Broudy, Vice President of Training and Simulation activities at Thales, said: “Drones are playing an increasingly decisive role on the battlefield, and it is crucial to have training solutions that can accurately simulate these new threats. Thales's new drone training function offers an adaptable and reliable training experience that enables military personnel to prepare effectively for operations and confrontations with these devices.”
