About Robin Radar Systems
Robin Radar Systems is a radar manufacturer headquartered in Delft, the Netherlands. The company was founded in 2010 as a spin-off from the Dutch research organisation TNO, where the underlying bird radar technology had been developed since 1980 for the Royal Netherlands Air Force to reduce bird strikes. A US subsidiary is based in Sterling, Virginia.
Its drone detection product is IRIS, a 3D radar introduced in 2020 that detects, tracks and classifies small drones, using micro-Doppler signatures and a neural network to distinguish drones from birds. IRIS succeeded the earlier 2D drone radar ELVIRA and offers an API for integration into counter-UAS systems. The company states that its radars serve defence, security, government and maritime infrastructure users.
Alongside drone detection, Robin Radar Systems supplies the MAX 3D avian radar for civil and military airfields and wind farms, and acquired the UK bird control company Scarecrow in 2021. The Dutch investment company Parcom took over the business in 2024.
