About TechHUB SVI Ost

Initiative launched in Berlin in 2026 by the Berlin Senate, Berlin Partner and regional business organisations to build a platform for security, defence and dual-use innovation in eastern Germany.

The TechHUB SVI Ost (Technology Hub Sicherheits- und Verteidigungsindustrie Ost, Technology Hub for the Security and Defence Industry East) was launched in Berlin on 27 April 2026 on the basis of a letter of intent. Its initiators are the Berlin Senate Chancellery, the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, Berlin Partner for Business and Technology, Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB), the Business Associations of Berlin and Brandenburg (UVB) and the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK Berlin). Berlin Partner coordinates the hub together with the responsible administrations; WISTA Management is also named as a partner. At its launch the hub was still being set up: a steering and working structure, a portfolio of services and a website were announced as next steps.

According to the letter of intent, the hub is intended as a platform for security, defence and dual-use innovation that links research institutions, companies and start-ups with the procurement and innovation structures of the Bundeswehr and of EU and NATO partners. Contact and cooperation structures are planned with the Federal Ministry of Defence and Bundeswehr bodies such as the innovation centre in Erding, the command structures, the Planning Office and the Bundeswehr Cyber Innovation Hub in Berlin, as well as with the existing TechHUB structures in Bavaria and Schleswig-Holstein. Further aims include civil and corporate security, the resilience of critical infrastructure and support for industries in transition, such as mechanical engineering and the automotive sector, that want to enter the defence and dual-use market.

Starting from Berlin, the hub sees itself as a platform for the whole of eastern Germany, with Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia described as integral parts. Key technologies named by the initiators include AI and big data, cybersecurity, drones, New Space, sensors, quantum technology, optics and photonics, robotics and additive manufacturing. Planned services comprise cooperation structures as well as networking, advisory and support offers for SMEs, start-ups and organisations in the security and defence industry.
