About Walaris
Walaris GmbH is the Nuremberg-based arm of a German-American company that develops signal processing and sensor fusion software using AI to evaluate sensor data in real time. The company, formerly known as Tarsier, started as a Stanford University spin-off founded by two students in Nuremberg and Atlanta at the same time; its parent company is in the United States, while development of its ITAR-free counter-UAS software and the intellectual property sit with the German GmbH. In 2026 the defence business in Nuremberg had around 40 employees.
Its core product, the AirScout platform, detects, classifies and tracks drones and drone swarms, distinguishes them from birds and other objects and runs at the edge. The software is hardware-agnostic and has been integrated with camera, radar, acoustic and RF sensors. Walaris sells software licences in several stages, from AI analysis of EO/IR video to full sensor fusion, as well as complete systems such as AirScout Tactical, a mobile rapid-deployment kit presented in 2025. A human operator keeps the decision on any engagement, while the system can cue an effector onto a target.
Walaris supplies technology to larger defence companies. Its computer vision AI is used in the ASUL counter-drone system that Hensoldt provides to the Bundeswehr, Diehl Defence has integrated AirScout Tactical into its Kinetic Defence Vehicle, and the software is part of the Eirshield system of the Estonian company DefSecIntel, which has been used in Ukraine. Besides military force protection, AirScout is offered for critical infrastructure and public safety.
