Aaronia AG presented new developments for drone detection and Counter-UAS at Enforce Tac in Nuremberg. Two of them are world firsts: a Mercedes Zetros 6×6 with the Aartos system fully integrated, and the Aartos X2 tablet, which displays drone detection on a mobile device.

At the Aaronia stand, the Mercedes Zetros was equipped with the Aartos X9 drone detection system. It enables seamless 360-degree surveillance and is fully self-sufficient and ready for use within minutes. The configuration can be tailored to many vehicle types and integrated to measure.

How Aartos DDS locates drones and pilots

According to the company, Aartos DDS has “key unique selling points over competitors' solutions in all mobile and stationary versions”. The system determines not only a drone's position and speed but also its altitude, another key parameter. The entire frequency spectrum is scanned, including simultaneous scans of different frequencies. This makes it possible to detect all drones that use radio signals – even those that use so-called frequency hopping. The system thus provides the positions of drone and operator in real time.

According to a current press release, the in-house software solution RTSA-Suite Pro plays a central role: “Because the powerful real-time spectrum analysis software allows a wide variety of hardware components to be integrated for evaluation, thus guaranteeing simple, efficient and optimal use of the respective system.”

More than Counter-UAS: a focus on electronic warfare

Against the backdrop of the current global security situation, besides drone detection and defence, many visitors were above all interested in what the Aartos system can do in electronic warfare. It monitors the entire frequency spectrum from 400 MHz to 6 GHz in real time. Beyond drones, this allows a wide variety of signals to be detected, such as BOS radios (German public-safety radios), radar pulses and radio-controlled systems. With the programmable 360 Grad Smart Jammer, these signals can be jammed selectively, enabling effective use in electronic conflict scenarios.

For Stephan Kraschansky, CEO of Aaronia Austria, it is about combining both topics: “The increasing threat posed by drone operations and the growing importance of electronic warfare show how important a comprehensive system is that unites both topics. With Aartos, we offer a flexible and powerful solution that enables armed forces and security authorities to respond quickly and effectively to a wide variety of threat scenarios.”
