Frontline’s C-UAS solution is to be integrated into Quantum Systems’ drone systems. The counter-drone agreement signed on 9 April combines cooperation and investment – and strengthens the German manufacturer’s presence in Ukraine.

Quantum Systems has announced that it has concluded a strategic cooperation and investment agreement with Frontline, a robotics specialist from Ukraine. The focus is on counter-UAS. According to the German drone manufacturer, the partnership represents “a significant step towards closer integration of the European and Ukrainian defence industries”.

Counter-UAS for the Family of Systems

The agreement was signed on 9 April under the chairmanship of Herman Smetanin, Minister of Strategic Industries. The core of the cooperation: Quantum Systems is integrating into its drone systems Frontline’s counter-drone solution (C-UAS, counter-unmanned aerial system), which engages unmanned aerial vehicles.

The C-UAS technology is based on a deep understanding of modern warfare. It is to be installed in future in the Vector AI reconnaissance drone, for example, as well as in other systems from the manufacturer’s “Family of Systems”.

Frontline was founded in August 2023 by four Ukrainian experts. Since 2014 the founders have been successfully developing robotic systems that are already in service with the Ukrainian armed forces. Frontline’s current focus is a network of interconnected aerial and ground robots intended to achieve unmanned dominance at tactical level to a depth of 15 kilometres.

The cooperation was officially sealed with a memorandum of understanding signed at Ukraine’s Ministry of Strategic Industries. For Quantum Systems, Co-CEO Sven Kruck and Oleksandr Berezhnyi, who heads the Ukrainian subsidiary Quantum Systems LLC, signed the document; for Frontline, CEO Yevhenii Tretiak and CTO Pavlo Kosolapkin.

Through Quantum Systems LLC, a subsidiary operating purely in Ukraine, the strategic investment also expands the company’s presence in the country. In its latest press release it writes: “As part of its long-term growth strategy, the company is strengthening local production.” It goes on to say that the company “is creating new jobs and intensifying cooperation with Ukrainian defence institutions and innovation stakeholders”.

Herman Smetanin is quoted as saying: “Our cooperation with Frontline is a strategic quantum leap – not only technologically, but also industrially. As a German-Ukrainian company, we are proud to invest in and work with leading Ukrainian MilTech innovators. It is about developing systems in Ukraine (-> latest news from the war in Ukraine), for Ukraine and for the future of European defence.”
