Loitering munition and interceptor in one: Ukraine approves Talion for its armed forces
Originally developed to counter enemy UAVs, Talion can also attack ground targets: the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has officially cleared the system for use by the troops as an interceptor and loitering munition.

With Talion, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence has officially approved a domestically developed unmanned aerial system for use by the armed forces. Its distinctive feature: it combines the capabilities of an interceptor against enemy drones with those of a loitering munition. It is intended to strengthen air defence as well as precision engagement of ground targets.
Talion was originally developed primarily to counter enemy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). It is controlled either manually or semi-autonomously and can engage drones at both low and high altitudes. According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, it is therefore suitable against almost all classes of hostile UAV.
Loitering munition against ground targets
In addition to its role as a so-called “lower-tier air defence” effector, Talion can also be used as a classic loitering munition against ground targets. This makes the system flexible for different tactical scenarios.
Because of its comparatively long endurance, Talion is also suitable for patrol and reconnaissance missions. By combining air-to-air and air-to-ground capabilities, Ukrainian units are expected to intercept enemy drones more effectively while precisely engaging targets in the tactical depth.
