The framework is a signed memorandum of understanding: drone manufacturer Quantum Systems and Renk Gears Private, the Indian subsidiary of the Renk Group, are seeking a strategic partnership in India. The two companies intend to step up cooperation in digitalisation and software development, in production and in research & development.

Praveen Mohan, Managing Director of Renk Gears Private, commented: “The cooperation is another strong signal for our site and underlines the Renk Group’s ‘Make in India’ ambitions.”

India as a market for the drone manufacturer

From Quantum Systems’ perspective, India is “a highly attractive, strategic environment for sustainable growth”. The country is steadily increasing its spending on defence and security, it says, alongside massive investment in infrastructure and high-tech projects. The company added: “As a geopolitically significant player with major civil and military challenges, India is an exciting market for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) drone technology and aerial intelligence services.”

Speaking for Quantum Systems, Chief Sales Officer Martin Karkour said: “We are very proud to expand our commitment in India with a local presence and a great partnership with Renk. With one of our largest fleets already flying in the country, we now want to take the next step with local production, maintenance and R&D.”

The Renk Group has maintained business relations for decades with India, a strategic partner of Germany. The company is currently expanding considerably the range of couplings, plain bearings and gearboxes it can manufacture there – for both civil and military applications. A new plant of around 7,000 square metres, also serving both sectors, is being built in the country by 2025.

Quantum Systems has likewise been doing business in the region for many years. The company has established itself as a partner of India, for example in land surveying and cadastral registration. In future it will also work for additional government agencies in India.
