Quantum Systems buys Hacker Motor: drone manufacturer brings propulsion technology in-house

100 per cent of the shares, all sites and employees retained: with Hacker Motor, Quantum Systems is taking over a long-standing key propulsion partner – and aims to secure the European supply chain for unmanned systems.

Hacker Motor GmbH, a German specialist in high-performance electric motors and drives, has passed fully into the ownership of Quantum Systems. The aim of the acquisition: greater vertical integration and a resilient, sovereign supply chain in Europe for unmanned systems.

The cooperation goes back years; Hacker Motor is regarded as a key technology partner of the buyer. Its technology already powers several platforms and is central to their vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability. It is equally decisive when copter-based flight profiles are flown. It therefore also carries considerable weight for Quantum Frontline Industries: Quantum Systems only recently launched this joint venture together with Frontline Robotics, a drone manufacturer from Ukraine.

Quantum Systems now holds all the shares – 100 per cent – in the company. The workforce and sites will be retained in full. The purchase follows a broader strategy: mastering critical key technologies in-house, making the supply chain less vulnerable to dependencies and specifically increasing Europe’s industrial resilience in unmanned systems.

What Quantum Systems expects from the acquisition

“The acquisition strengthens our vertical integration and gives us direct control over a critical system component – from development to integration,” says Florian Seibel, who co-founded Quantum Systems and leads it as co-CEO. He continues: “For us as a manufacturer, this means less complexity and fewer dependencies in the supply chain. At the same time, we can ensure the consistently high performance and quality on which our customers must rely in operations.”

The other side also sees the takeover as a strategic development step. “With Quantum Systems at our side, we are opening a new, ambitious chapter in the history of Hacker Motor,” says Jörg Trommer, who heads the company as CEO. On its origins he adds: “Our roots lie in RC model flying – a field in which precision, efficiency and a passion for electric propulsion technology have shaped our work for decades. This know-how forms the technological basis for modern unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) applications.”

According to Trommer, the backing and scaling opportunities that Quantum Systems brings now open up the chance to lead the company specifically to the top of the world’s suppliers of electric propulsion systems for UAVs. At the same time, he stresses that applications in other industries as well as model flying will continue to be actively served: “The close technology transfer between model flying and professional unmanned systems has always been a decisive success factor – and will remain so in the future.”
