GeoSpectrum Technologies Inc. is a wholly owned Canadian subsidiary of Elbit Systems, based in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, with a second site in Cavan-Monaghan, Ontario. It has specialised in underwater acoustic transducers and systems since 1994 and designs and manufactures hydrophones, sound projectors and integrated acoustic systems for defence and commercial maritime surveillance.
Its Towed Reelable Active Passive Sonar (TRAPS) is a low-frequency variable depth sonar for detecting, classifying, localising and tracking submarines; a containerised TRAPS first went to sea on Royal Canadian Navy ships in 2019. In April 2020 the company introduced TRAPS-USV, a compact variant weighing about 40 per cent of the baseline system that can be installed on crewed and uncrewed vessels down to 12 m in length. Elbit Systems integrated TRAPS-USV onboard its Seagull unmanned surface vessel, with sea trials off Haifa, to give the vessel an anti-submarine warfare capability on the move.
The company’s defence portfolio also covers sensing, communications and monitoring for uncrewed maritime platforms, surface ship and submarine systems, area surveillance for ports and coastal infrastructure, test and evaluation, software and land surveillance.
