Bayraktar Akinci shoots down target UAV over the Black Sea with Roketsan Sungur missile

After Kemankes 1 and Eren, now Sungur: in the test off Sinop, the Roketsan air defence missile scored a direct hit on the target aircraft. Baykar's Bayraktar Akinci thus adds a further munition class to its arsenal against aerial targets.

The Bayraktar Akinci from Baykar, an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV), is further expanding its air combat capabilities. In a recently completed test, the Sungur air defence missile, developed by Roketsan, scored a direct hit on the target aircraft.

The Akinci took off from the Çorlu Flight Training and Test Centre in Tekirdağ for the test area over the Black Sea. Off the coast of Sinop, it fired the Sungur munition, which directly hit an airborne target, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The Akinci then returned to Çorlu on the planned route.

The Akinci had previously carried out air-to-air firings with Kemankes 1, an AI-supported mini cruise missile, and had also successfully hit its target with Eren, the high-speed multi-purpose loitering munition developed by Roketsan. With the addition of the Sungar air defence missile, Akinci can now employ munitions of different classes against aerial targets.

Wide range of munitions for the Bayraktar Akinci

Munitions integrated into the UCAV so far include: MAM-L, MAM-T, MAM-C, the Tolun munition family, Teber-81, Lacin, LGK-81, HGK-82, the Gökce´ guidance system, KGK-82-Siha, the IHA-300 supersonic missile, the Çakir cruise missiles and the Eren high-speed multi-purpose loitering munition.

The varied selection of munitions opens up numerous options in terms of range, guidance and warhead. Akinci can thus be employed in multiple layers, conduct strikes and engage different target types at short and long range.
