Romania increasingly needs advanced combat robotics solutions – Milrem Robotics and Digital Bit, a Romanian manufacturer and supplier of defence systems, intend to meet this demand together in future. As a first step, the partners have combined Milrem Robotics' Themis unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) with Digital Bit's remote-controlled Agil weapon station. The result was on show from 22 to 24 May in Bucharest at the defence, aerospace and security exhibition.

Both companies expressed satisfaction with the cooperation there. Patrick Shepherd, Chief Sales Officer at Milrem Robotics, stated: “We are delighted to announce this partnership with Digital Bit. Together, we are combining our strengths to deliver state-of-the-art robotic solutions that meet the complex requirements of modern defence operations.”

For Digital Bit, managing director Bogdan Bărbulescu added: “The Agil Remote Controlled Weapon Station is efficient and user-friendly. Agil's capabilities are packaged with a very good price-performance ratio.”

The Combat UGV as a force multiplier

The Themis Combat UGV provides troops in the field with direct fire support; the vehicle is thus intended to act as a force multiplier. Thanks to an integrated, self-stabilising, remote-controlled weapon system, it delivers, according to the manufacturer, “high precision even at long ranges, thereby increasing the stand-off distance, protection and survivability of the troops”.

Possible armament for the Combat UGV includes light or heavy machine guns as well as anti-tank missile systems.
