Counter-UAS for military sites: BAAINBw and Tytan Technologies develop interceptor drone demonstrator

Munich-based Tytan Technologies is contributing AI-enabled interceptor drones to a Bundeswehr counter-UAS project. Supported by the innovation lab in Erding, a system demonstration is to show how military sites can be protected against UAS.

The Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and Munich-based company Tytan Technologies intend to jointly develop a novel counter-UAS demonstrator. Both have signed an agreement to this end. The aim is to protect Bundeswehr sites against threats from unmanned aerial systems (UAS).

The project is being led by the Bundeswehr innovation lab in Erding. The goal is a capability to counter threats from medium-sized, medium-range UAS and thus effectively protect the Bundeswehr's critical infrastructure.

Interceptor drones at the core of counter-drone defence

The focus is on linking different sensor types, effectors, and command and control components (C4 technologies). Tytan Technologies is contributing AI-enabled interceptor drones that have already been successfully tested under operational conditions at home and abroad. These interceptor drones are designed to detect incoming UAS autonomously and engage them precisely. The development thus cost-efficiently closes a capability gap in countering unmanned threats.

A system demonstration is being prepared for the coming months. It is intended to show how innovative interceptor drones, working together with established sensor and C4 technologies, can form an effective protective shield for Bundeswehr sites.
