Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Elop

Elbit Systems Electro-optics Elop Ltd. (Elop) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Elbit Systems based in Rehovot, Israel. According to the group’s annual report, it designs, engineers, manufactures and supports electro-optic and laser systems, mainly for defence, space and homeland security customers.

For unmanned aircraft Elbit offers the CoMPASS family of stabilised electro-optical payloads. The DCoMPASS UAV payload integrates up to five electro-optical elements in a single unit: an HD colour TV camera, a thermal imager, a laser target illuminator, an eye-safe laser rangefinder and a laser target designator. When Elbit introduced the DCoMPASS FHD iMEP variant in 2014, it was presented by the general manager of Elop and described as suitable for light aircraft including MALE UAVs.

According to Elbit, the development of its high-power lasers for ground-based and airborne applications is carried out through Elop, part of the group’s ISTAR and EW division. Elbit is the laser supplier for the Iron Beam ground-based laser air defence system of the Israel Ministry of Defence, whose development was declared complete in September 2025, and is working on airborne high-power lasers, including against UAVs.
