Camcopter S-100 for the Hellenic Navy: Schiebel completes acceptance tests of the first two systems

In February the contract for four systems for Greece’s new FDI frigates was signed; now the first two Camcopter S-100 have passed acceptance at the Kotroni helicopter base. This clears the way for operational use.

On 13 February, Schiebel and the Hellenic Navy signed the contract for four Camcopter S-100 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), intended for the Greek navy’s new frigates of the “Frégate de Défense et d’Intervention” (FDI) class. A first important milestone has now been reached: acceptance tests for the first two systems have been successfully completed.

Camcopter S-100 passes functional tests at Kotroni

During a one-week campaign at the Kotroni helicopter base, the two systems, which together comprise four unmanned aircraft, had to complete comprehensive functional tests. According to the company, they were successful; operational readiness is thus considered confirmed.

Sensing is provided by an MX-10 electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensor from L3 Harris and the Overwatch Imaging PT-8DN Oceanwatch. With these, the S-100 is intended to significantly expand the capabilities of the Greek navy – above all in maritime security, search and rescue, environmental monitoring and control of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

Hans Georg Schiebel, Chairman of the Schiebel Group, put the step into context: “This milestone is an important step in the introduction of the Camcopter S-100 into the Greek navy.” He added: “The successful acceptance underlines the close cooperation between Schiebel and the Hellenic Navy and paves the way for operational use.”
