Ground drone Mandrill: Quantum Systems enters ground robotics at Enforce Tac
With the Mandrill ground drone, Quantum Systems is opening its own Ground Robotics business unit. The modular vehicle is tied to the Mosaic UXS software suite and is meant to be the first of a whole family of ground-based systems.

At Enforce Tac, the security and defence trade fair in Nuremberg, Quantum Systems showed a ground drone of its own design for the first time: the Mandrill unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). With it, the group of companies also officially announced its entry into ground robotics.
Mandrill opens a planned family of ground-based robotic systems and is fully integrated into the open, modular Mosaic UXS software suite. The vehicle is explicitly not intended as an isolated standalone platform – rather, it is to be an integral part of Quantum Systems' networked, multi-dimensional robotics ecosystem.
One ground drone for many missions
Because the UGV has a modular design, it can be reconfigured for changing mission requirements within a short time. It is intended for a broad range of tasks:
- intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) with electro-optical and infrared-capable gimbal sensors
- logistics and engineer support
- medical evacuation (medevac)
- towing and recovery operations
- electronic warfare
- integration of launch and landing facilities for drones
Additional sensors, effectors and subsystems can be retrofitted flexibly via the open system architecture. As Mandrill is natively integrated into Mosaic UXS, the vehicle works seamlessly with current and future unmanned air, land and sea systems.
A dedicated Ground Robotics business unit
With Mandrill, Quantum Systems is creating a dedicated business unit for ground-based robotics. The new Ground Robotics unit is headed by Hendrik Kramer.

With Mandrill, we are laying the foundation for a powerful and scalable family of systems in the ground domain— Hendrik Kramer, Head of the Ground Robotics business unit at Quantum Systems
According to Kramer, the aim is not merely to build a single vehicle. The goal is a modular, networked ecosystem that adapts flexibly to the requirements of modern operational scenarios. He added: “Mandrill is a robust, modular platform designed consistently for further development.”
The market launch is part of the company's overarching multi-domain strategy. At its core is the open Mosaic UXS software suite, which allows unmanned systems to be networked independently of the manufacturer and across different operational domains.
The future of unmanned systems lies not in isolated platforms, but in intelligently networked groupings— Martin Karkour, Chief Revenue Officer of Quantum Systems
Further platforms and specialisations within the family of ground systems are already planned in the Ground Robotics unit's roadmap. By focusing consistently on modularity, interoperability and cross-domain integration, Quantum Systems is positioning itself as a provider of comprehensive unmanned system solutions.
