About Airborne Technologies
Austrian aircraft modification company from Wiener Neustadt that designs, integrates and certifies ISR mission equipment such as the Airborne LINX mission system and SCAR-Pod sensor pods for fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.
Airborne Technologies GmbH is based in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, and turns aircraft into special mission platforms for search and rescue, aerial surveying, law enforcement, maritime patrol and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). According to the company, its mission solutions are intended for fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles, and its customers include governments, police forces, the military and industry. It is an EASA-approved design organisation (Part 21J), production organisation (Part 21G) and maintenance organisation (Part 145), and set up a wholly owned subsidiary in Dubai in 2023.
Its core product is Airborne LINX, a mission system built around in-house software that connects the sensors and communication equipment on board and is operated through a Mission Management Unit. The SCAR-Pod (Self Contained Aerial Reconnaissance Pod) family attaches to aircraft via standard NATO 14-inch lug suspensions and is offered in EO/IR, radar and ViDAR configurations; the EO/IR version carries up to 160 kg of mission equipment. Further products include operator workstations, camera lifts, brackets and radomes.
In defence, Airborne Technologies worked as a subcontractor of Zimex Aviation on two DHC-6-300 surveillance aircraft for the Danish Home Guard, which supports the Danish Defence; they were handed over in January 2025, and a third aircraft was ordered in September 2025. In April 2026 the company announced that Airbus Defence & Space had selected it as a system integration partner for the A400M programme. Other references include helicopters for the Bulgarian Border Guard and the Polish Police and, as a subcontractor of Schiebel, the iSAR SASEMAR upgrades of a CASA CN-235 and an AW139.
