About IMSAR

US manufacturer from Springville, Utah, of lightweight synthetic aperture and multi-mode radars for unmanned aircraft from Group 1 to Group 5, used by the US Marine Corps among others.

IMSAR LLC was founded in 2004 by Ryan Smith, who leads the company as CEO, after he had developed a particularly small synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Design, production and support are based in a 60,000 sq ft facility in Springville, Utah, and the company also has an office in Arlington, Virginia. IMSAR has held AS9100D certification since 2018, tripled its manufacturing footprint in 2026 and entered a strategic investment partnership with OceanSound Partners in the same year.

The NSP radar family covers the full range of unmanned aircraft: the NSP-2 for Group 1–2 UAS, the NSP-3 for Group 2–3, the NSP-5 for Group 3–4 and the NSP-7 and NSP-8 for Group 4–5 UAS and manned aircraft, complemented by processing solutions. The radars provide SAR imagery, moving target indication and maritime surface search. In April 2026 the miniaturised NanoSAR D made its first flight. According to IMSAR, its radars have been installed on more than 100 different aerial platforms in over 30 countries.

The NSP-5 was configured for the US Marine Corps' RQ-21A Blackjack and went into production as a mission kit for that programme; IMSAR names a SAR/MTI programme of record with the Marines and more than four years of SAR and coherent change detection operations in Afghanistan. Its customers include the US Department of War, the Department of Homeland Security and allied nations. The NSP-3 has been integrated on Schiebel's CAMCOPTER S-100, and IMSAR has agreed with TEKEVER to integrate SAR into its UAS.
