Über Nammo

Nammo is a Nordic aerospace and defence group headquartered in Raufoss, Norway. It was formed in 1998 through a merger of the ammunition businesses of Norway, Sweden and Finland, and is owned in equal shares by the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries and the Finnish aerospace and defence company Patria Oyj. Nammo develops and manufactures specialty ammunition, shoulder-fired systems and rocket motors; further activities include composite solutions, products for space, demilitarisation and a test centre at Bradalsmyra. In 2025 the group reported revenue of NOK 14.41 billion and an operating result of NOK 1,830 million, and ended the year with 4,200 employees across 27 sites in 12 countries.

Nammo names increasing the output of drone warheads as a top priority alongside rocket motors and artillery shells. Its N7 is a 66 mm shaped-charge anti-armour warhead weighing 1.5 kg for use on bomber drones and FPV drones. According to Nammo it penetrates more than 450 mm of rolled homogeneous armour. Its electronic fuze can be switched between safe and armed through the host aircraft’s power supply, so that a drone can return if no target is found. At Eurosatory 2026 Nammo presented the warhead as part of a modular strike system with an unmanned aerial vehicle. Earlier, Nammo Raufoss developed a drone-mounted version of its 66 mm M72 shoulder-fired weapon, provisionally named M72 Airborne and described as a low-cost loitering weapon concept; six live-fire demonstrations were reported in December 2021.

For countering drones, Nammo offers programmable medium-calibre ammunition. Its 30 mm x 113 and 40 mm L/70 PABEX (Programmable AirBurst EXplosive) rounds are, according to the company, designed to engage drones, missiles, helicopters as well as surface and ground targets, and are intended mainly for integration into air defence systems. Nammo had already presented its programmable 40 mm airburst ammunition as a means against small drones in 2017. In propulsion, Nammo designs and produces solid rocket motors for air-to-air, surface-to-air and air-to-surface applications and is developing air-breathing propulsion based on solid-fuelled ramjets.
