About the company
About Fugro
Fugro N.V. was founded in 1962 and is listed on Euronext Amsterdam. The company collects and analyses geo-data on land and at sea, mainly for the energy, water and infrastructure sectors. According to its website it employs around 11,000 people and operates in 52 countries. Its head office is in Nootdorp in the Netherlands, after moving there from Leidschendam.
Uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) and remote operations are part of Fugro’s long-term strategy. By November 2023 the company had delivered five 12-metre Blue Essence USVs across its regions and that month agreed to take full ownership of the British USV developer SEA-KIT International, which continues to supply USV products to clients. In October 2026 the European Investment Bank granted Fugro a €150 million facility to fund the development and roll-out of its USV technology and remote operations capabilities.
In defence and security, Fugro and Damen formed a joint venture that won a Dutch Ministry of Defence tender in 2025 to provide the Royal Netherlands Navy with a chartered surveillance vessel and crew. The ship, DSS Galatea, is used for security operations in the Dutch North Sea exclusive economic zone, including monitoring vessel traffic and surveying cables and pipelines, and patrolled during the NATO summit in The Hague in June 2025. Its crew consists of Fugro civilians, with naval personnel added depending on the mission. Fugro also took part as a partner of Schiebel at the NATO-related exercises REPMUS and Dynamic Messenger 2023 in Portugal, where its Rapid Airborne Multibeam Mapping System (RAMMS) contributed to topobathymetric data in the surf zone.
