Reconnaissance drones from Ukraine: Quantum Systems opens plant for up to 1,000 Vector a year

The new production site of Quantum-Systems GmbH in Ukraine was opened a few days ago by Robert Habeck, German Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, who was visiting the country with a delegation. The company, which supplies Ukraine with reconnaissance drones, has been supporting Ukraine in its defensive fight against Russia since spring 2022 – that is, since shortly after the war began.

Also present at the opening were Oleksandr Kamyshin, Ukraine's Minister for Strategic Industries, and Ivan Havryliuk, Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Defence.

More than 500 reconnaissance drones by year-end

Quantum Systems has primarily delivered Vector reconnaissance drones to Ukraine. Under the capacity-building initiative (Ertüchtigungsinitiative), 212 systems have reached the country since May 2022; by the end of the year this number is set to more than double to over 500. The company already runs a service, support, training and logistics centre on site. Its 25 Ukrainian employees train drone pilots there and feed technological improvements directly into the reconnaissance systems. The new production company is to deliver up to 1,000 Vector drones a year and secure the manufacture of spare parts.

Florian Seibel, who founded Quantum Systems and leads it as CEO, said: “Ukraine has trusted our reconnaissance systems since the start of the war. With our own plant we want to express our trust in Ukraine and our conviction that the future of drone technology is being written here and that it will make a decisive contribution.”

The new plant is the company's second site in Ukraine; around 100 people are to work there by the end of the year. Quantum Systems plans to invest up to six million euros over the next two years. The dual-use company currently produces for the civil and public sectors with around 250 employees at three sites. Worldwide, Quantum Systems thus has seven sites in total, with the Ukrainian production site being its fourth plant.

At the opening, Federal Minister Habeck said: “Through its engagement in Ukraine, Quantum Systems supports the fight for freedom and democracy. With its private investment, the company contributes to the country's security and resilience.”
